LESSONS
Success in learning frequently depends on finding the right Piano Instructor; someone who knows the subject well and understands how to inspire others. My teaching style focuses on skills training, but also emphasizes self-exploration and discovering a passion for something new. Please take a moment to get acquainted with my teaching method, which centers around the three main approaches explained below.
BACK TO BASICS
Shortcuts are great when we are behind schedule and need to reach our destinations fast. But not when we are building towards a lifetime skill, such as playing an instrument. Learning to play the piano is similar to achieving mastery of a new language. Once you master the basics of reading, writing and speaking in that language, the resources available to you are endless. As an instructor, I strive to ensure that my students are well-equipped to pursue any form of music by providing them with a strong musical foundation.

CREATIVE APPROACH
Many of us have encountered musicians who can 'play by ear'. They simply listen to a song, internalize what they hear, and proceed to play it on their instruments without the need for any sheet music. Pretty amazing right? Contrary to common belief, this method of playing CAN be learned with proper guidance and practice. Areas that will be covered include:
-
learning how to form melodies in your mind
-
understanding and application of chords
-
exploring different styles of playing a song
-
tips and tricks to sound like a professional

INTERPRETIVE APPROACH
Just as authors from around the world share their thoughts, ideas and experiences through literature, musicians share their music with others using music notation. Mastering the art of reading music will help you to learn your favorite songs quickly and expand your repertoire.
Areas that will be covered include:
-
identifying music notes on the musical staff and playing them on the piano
-
developing steady rhythm and tempo
-
correct hand and finger positioning
-
techniques for executing different sounds
-
incorporating expression into your playing
